Located at the southernmost end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and within the central urban area of Hangzhou, "Gongshu" district is named after "Gongchen Bridge" and "Hushu", two ancient places. It is the NO.1 area for social retail consumption in the province, as it brings together 16 high-quality complexes such as Hangzhou Tower, Hangzhou Center, and COFCO Joy City, as well as characteristic blocks such as Dadou Road Historic Block, Xiaohe Historical and Cultural Block, Qiaoxi Historical and Cultural Block, and continues to promote the reshaping and upgrading of four major business centers, "Wulin", "Grand Canal", "Xintiandi" and "Heping". Gongshu district has a long history and is surrounded by two world-class cultural heritages of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and "Beginning of summer customs in Banshan", 37 cultural heritage sites and 23 places at the municipal level and above including Huanxi Yongning Bridge, 17 industrial relics such as the Hangzhou Dahe Shipyard Building Group, and museum groups featured by five national-level museums including the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is the core section of the Hangzhou Canal with the greatest historical backgrounds, the richest cultural heritage, and the most superior cultural and tourism value.
