A friendly football match between Guangzhou and Gwangju teams is held in Gwangju.

On Nov 12, a friendly match between the Guangzhou Youth Football Team and the U12 Youth Team of the Gwangju Men's Football Club was held in Gwangju, South Korea, to strengthen sports and cultural exchanges among young people from the two sister cities.
The event, organized by the Gwangju Government, is a highlight of the sister-city relationship between Gwangju and Guangzhou. During the visit, the Guangzhou Youth Football Team will engage in joint training and friendly matches with several youth football clubs in Gwangju, along with a variety of rich cultural and experiential activities.
Since establishing their status as international sister cities in 1996, Gwangju and Guangzhou have fostered strong ties for 28 years. As a testament to their relationship, Gwangju arranged for young students to travel to Guangzhou to take part in the third International Sister City Youth Football Exchange Event as far back as 2019.
