On December 23, the Guangdong Provincial Communications Group announced that the second phase of the Zhanjiang Airport Expressway project is now ready for operation, and the full opening of the Western Guangdong Airport Expressway (粵西空港高速) is scheduled for December 28.

The Zhanjiang Airport Expressway spans approximately 25 kilometers and has been constructed in two phases. The first phase was completed and opened in December 2023. It connects key highways such as the Shantou-Zhanjiang Expressway and serves as a vital hub linking the western Guangdong expressway network to Zhanjiang Wuchuan International Airport.
Once fully operational, the expressway will connect with the Zhanjiang Tiaoshun Bridge, reducing travel time from downtown Zhanjiang to the international airport by about 20 minutes.
