The Mao Zedong Statue in Dongfanghong Square is situated on thecampus of Hunan University in Yuelu District, Changsha City, HunanProvince. During his youth, Mao frequently resided at Yuelu Academy,fostering a profound bond with Hunan University. Constructed between1966 and 1967, the statue towers over the square, depicting Mao withhands clasped behind his back, gazing at the rising sun. Behind the statuestands a monumental poetry stele inscribed with Mao's iconic poetrywork: “Changsha: to the Tune of Qinyuan Chun."
