The former "Kulangsu Gallery of Foreign Artefacts from the Palace Museum Collection" was officially renamed the "Gulangyu Gallery of Artefacts from the Palace Museum Collection" on Dec 6 in Xiamen. Over 200 precious cultural relics from the Palace Museum were unveiled, with eight of them being publicly exhibited outside the Palace Museum for the first time.
As the sole themed branch established by the Palace Museum outside Beijing, the Gulangyu Gallery showcases a dedicated collection of ancient Chinese artistic treasures and foreign artifacts from the Palace Museum's holdings.
This exhibition features the most diverse range of artifact categories and the longest chronological span since the Gulangyu Gallery opened eight years ago, aligning with the artistic character of the "Island of Music".
Among the exhibited artifacts, 128 pieces are being displayed for the first time. Masterpieces such as Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Dehua white porcelain and Song Dynasty (960-1279) Jian black porcelain — representing the pinnacle of ancient ceramic craftsmanship in Fujian and across China — have returned to Fujian, showcasing the rich heritage of the region's ceramic culture.
